About Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti
NAVODAYA Vidyalaya Samiti ( NVS ) ( An Autonomous Body Under MHRD ) Government Of India basically manages more than 600 JAWAHAR NAVODAYA VIDYALAYA popularly known as JNV which are located in rural areas across the country. Each Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya ( JNV ) has facilities for a full-fledged campus with adequate building for classrooms, staff-quarters, dormitories, dining-hall and other infrastructural facilities like play-grounds, workshops, library and labs etc. Official website of Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti is https://navodaya.gov.in
Since all Jawahar NAVODAYA Vidyalaya ( JNV ) are affiliated to CBSE they follows strict guidelines laid by CBSE.
To manage such a large number of JNVs, NAVODAYA Vidyalaya Samiti ( NVS ) has established Regional offices at Bhopal, Chandigarh, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Lucknow, Patna, Pune & Shillong with jurisdiction over different States and UTs.
For Admission to Class VI in Jahawar NAVODAYA Vidyalayas one requires to qualify in the JAWAHAR NAVODAYA VIDYALAYA Selection Test popularly known as JNVST. This test is conducted by the CBSE every year throughout the country to select the 80 most meritorious students for each Jahawar Navodaya Vidyalaya.
JNVST is conducted in three phases every year, depending upon the session structure in the specific state or union territory. Students can apply for the test only once during their Class V.
For optimal utilization of the vacant the seats, JNVST, developed by CBSE, is also conducted for admission to Class IX and lateral admissions, based on marks obtained in Class X, are made for Class XI.
Jawahar NAVODAYA Vidyalayas are generally located in rural areas of India. Usually approx 30 acres of land for each school needs to be provided free of cost by the state government. Any JNV campus constitutes an academic block, residential blocks for both students and staff, play grounds and mess. The academic block consists of Class Rooms for children, different Laboratories, at least a library, and Computer Labs. Residential buildings consists of quarters for faculty and staff members and usually separate hostels for boys and girls.
Students of Jawahar NAVODAYA Vidyalayas has consistently produced the best results in CBSE board examinations. In 2015-16 results, JNVs had a pass percentage of, 98.87% in Class X board exams and 96.73% in Class XII board exams. The pass percentage for JNVs has been higher than other private schools.
